I do admit to being utterly confused at the present moment. Utterly and totally. I woke up not exactly knowing where I was but then figured out that I was in heaven, in Paradise. It seems like Paradise and (all in their right mind) would totally agree with me. I have taken up residence in the Rixos Resort in Abu Dhabi. I sometimes have to pinch myself to be sure that this is reality and not some dream. There are some downsides – it is so vast that I am constantly getting lost. Grandson drove me here with all my luggage, I checked in and then we were escorted to my room. I decided to walk him to the entrance – but we both got totally lost, kept running around in circles, asking people where we were. We were laughing like fools. We must have looked utterly stupid – he is so tall and I am so short – therefore, I have to struggle to catch up with him.
Me: Slow down please Grandson. Your Granny is old.
He: Sorry!! But you are not that old and healthy. Please do not complain.
Me: Ok! Ok! But it seems to me that your sense of direction is no better than mine. That is a problem!!
But eventually we got found. Then my Sheikh (he is not really one but he wears white) escorted me to the Turquoise Room for lunch. The food here is magnificent beyond belief – more about that later. While eating and drinking (and making merry) received a text from Grandson.
He: Really I miss you. Take good care and God bless you.
Me: I saw your message and started to cry!! Tears of joy! I really really miss you too.
Then later texted him.
Me: So so full from lunch but dinner looms. I am going to get SO fat!
He: Enjoy your food but take care of your health.
Then later:
Me: Had the greatest evening! Upon invitation joined a couple with two small kids – they from London. Will meet them tomorrow as well.
He: Sent an emoji with stars in eyes.
Me: Why are there stars in the eyes?? I hate emojis sometimes. I am taking care of 2 year old Max on his mother’s 40th birthday. He has SO much energy!
The evening was so beautiful – the weather warm but not hot. It reminded me of Italy – an expensive hotel where I spent my 50th birthday and surprisingly got engaged. That is a funny story actually – but it was in the past and that marriage was obviated when I became a Muslim.
Found my way back to my room (a miracle) and went to bed. Woke up disorientated and confused. At some point called housekeeping as I needed a robe and more hangers.
Me: It is so funny what you do these days when first coming to a hotel. I ran around making sure that my devices were either charged or charging.
Robe and hangars were delivered by a handsome young man from India. Made myself instant coffee, went on Instagram to get message from son who works at the Rixos and is actually responsible for me being at this fabulous place. His nickname is SOP Son of the Philippines.
He: Am going home now. Just finished my duty. Miss you mommy! Did you like your room!!. My friend changed it for you.
Me: I LOVE LOVE my room!!! You must see your Mommy as she misses you too.
So then took a photo from my balcony posting it on Instagram. Go to Instagram, look up Alexis McTwit and you can see what I wrote. It is funny, I do have to admit.
Then I got back in bed, and started to write this blog. Another reason for being in a confused state was because I had not written for two days. Writing centers and is essential for my well being. I had an incredible adventure one evening at the JW Marriott and must write about it. Met the most incredible family, a wonderful little boy and spoke to many people of the faith at the Positano Restaurant. The food was magnificent – took many pictures which shall be posted. The whole story of my reservation at the restaurant and the attention paid is almost unbelievable.
When back at the Marriott had another rather unusual experience. I would go each day to the pool in the early morning and often speak with Michael who led the most interesting life, traveling like a vagabond from one place to another – never settling down. He was in great shape – swimming, going to the gym. He was so much fun but said that he avoided intimacy and close relationships with others. But then the day before yesterday, he announced that he had changed his mind and that “You’re the One That I Want”. Just now I Googled it and here are the words to the song.
I got the chills, they’re multiplying
And I’m losing control
‘Cause the power you’re supplying
It’s electrifying
You better shape up
‘Cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up
You better understand
To my heart I must be true
Nothin’ left, nothin’ left for me to do
You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh
The one I need (the one I need)
Oh, yes indeed (yes, indeed)
If you’re filled with affection
You’re too shy to convey
Meditate in my direction
Feel your way
I better shape up
‘Cause you need a man
I need a man
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up
If I’m gonna prove
You better prove
That my faith is justified
Are you sure?
Yes, I’m sure down deep inside
You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh
The one I need (the one I need)
Oh, yes indeed (yes, indeed)
You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh ooh, ooh
The one I need (the one I need)
Oh, yes indeed (yes, indeed) ooh, ooh
You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh
The one I need (the one I need)
Oh, yes indeed (yes, indeed)
You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, honey
The one that I want
You absolutely MUST Google the song and listen to it. It is absolutely amazing and so much fun.
But this is what happened in real (not reel) life. I laughed with Michael
Me: I know why you think I am the One That You Want. It is because I am unavailable. Men always want what they cannot have.
He: (smilingly) Maybe
The next day was my last at the pool and the Marriott. We were to meet and exchange contact details. He did not show up.
What is the meaning of unavailable? Definition: not able to be used or obtained; not at someone’s disposal.
I am available to my’ sons’ and Grandson but not a guy that would just get in the way – in the way of my writing, my independence, my Instant Intimacy as one man called it. It was in Las Vegas, he was there with his girlfriend, he was a psychiatrist.
He: You pick unavailable men because you have Instant Intimacy with people. Having a steady relationship with a man would just get in the way of that.
He was right. Very recently I met a man and I did everything possible to chase him away even though he was in so many ways utterly desirable.
Photo is of that view from my room. A room that I do not share with any man. The Islamic faith forbids any contact with a man that is not my husband and I fear that I do not want one. I have been there and done that, it did not work out.
