That song comes to mind, after yesterday, another amazing day filled with good news and surprises. The song is a romantic one, that is not the basis of my happiness.
PCP: I have never seen you so relaxed and happy!
Me: Well, it is probably because there are NO men in my life.
PCP: That is a rarity in your life.
Me: I know, and you know, so well, what bad taste I have in men.
PCP: Yes, I do remember that! Could never quite understand that about you.
Me: I know now, thanks to Wise Man. Narcissists are drawn to me, they pick me rather than the other way around. Do not know what is going to happen these days but it looks like some man will be chosen for me. That should bring me better luck. Hahahaha
But here are some of the lyrics of the song: It is a song by Dinah Washington.
“What a difference a day makes
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain
My yesterday was blue, dear
Today I’m a part of you, dear
My lonely nights are through, dear
Since you said you were mine
What a difference a day makes
There’s a rainbow before me
Skies above can’t be stormy
Since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss
It’s heaven when you find romance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is you
What a difference a day makes
There’s a rainbow before me
Skies above can’t be stormy
Since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss
It’s heaven when you find romance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is you.”
As stated in the prior paragraph, there was no thrilling kiss, no romance on my menu but yesterday made a big difference. People always ask:
They: Why?
Me: There is never only one WHY. There are always many, a confluence, so a convergence, meeting, junction, joining, conflux, waters meet; (Indian) sangam.
They: But if you find the right person, the man of your dreams, then a day can make a difference.
Me: But it will not last – no one person can be everything to you – day in day out, week in and week out, month in and month out, year in and year out. There must be more.
They: Well, what can that be?
Me: I believe now that happiness must be buttressed by faith, by a belief in One God. Did not always believe that, but now I do.
They: How does it work, implementing the belief?
Me: You want a glib answer, a one answer to why. You are not getting it here. Hahaha By the way glib are words that are fluent but insincere and shallow. Used in a sentence: The glib phrases soon roll off the tongue.Synonyms are: : pat, neat, plausible, silky, smooth-slick, smooth, fluent talking, fast-talki urbane, smooth-tongued, silver-tongued, smooth-spoken; voluble, loquacious, having kissed the Blarney Stone; disingenuous, insincere, facile, shallow, superficial, simplistic, oversimplified, easy, ready, flippant, flip, sweet-talking, with the gift of the gab.. Antonyms: thoughtful.
So most happy with my life – who would not be? I live in an very well managed apartment complex. A recent visitor said that it seemed European and it does. A feeling of community even though everything is shut down due to the pandemic. Went for my daily walk which makes me feel better about myself as the doctor says that is what I am supposed to be doing. Saw a man squirting weed killer (it turned out).
Me: Hello, are you a Gardner?
He: Yes I am.
Me: I have a favour to ask of you. I do flower arranging and sometimes need filler (greenery) – if I promise just to take a little and do nothing to mar the plant, could I do so?
He: Yes, of course.
Me: Oh thank you! You do such a good job, the plants are so healthy, trimmed to perfection and well selected.
He: Thank you.
Care Giver came to assist, hung a picture or two, helped organize the walk-in closet, then we went to Rite Aid. He brought food made by his daughter. My goodness it was yummy – samosas, a breakfast sandwich, a piece of cake etc. etc. I am SO spoiled. The food is very healthy, (well I suppose except for the cake).
But then the best news of all came into my Inbox. It was a notification from MarinHealth, speaking of the availability and distribution of the vaccine. As I said to a friend – it pays to be old. I am in Phase IB Tier One as I am older than 75 and will receive the vaccine starting in early January or early February. More good news? It will just be a hop, skip, and a jump away to the office of my Primary Care Physician to get the jab. No standing in line for hours and sometimes over night like people in Florida with their lawn chairs trying to get ahead of the game.
Well, then something did go wrong – into each life some rain must fall. There was a strange sound, like a distant fire alarm that went on and on and on. Eventually called the office and a staff member immediately came, could not figure out what it was and so sent the wonderful maintenance man. It was, strangely enough, the call box from my television. I then took the matter into my own hands, called Xfinity and they are sending a technician out tomorrow. I did not want to do it myself, I am an old lady, after all. Hahaha
The photograph is a Christmas ornament purchased at Rite Aid for 90% off. It is most amusing. The lips remind me of a guy that I used to know.(Just kidding!)
By the way into each life some rain must fall is an idiom meaning: This means that bad or unfortunate things will happen to everyone at some time.Want to know more? “Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary. This poem is in the public domain. Most experts would agree that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was the most popular American poet of the nineteenth century.”
