I received the following email in April, as you will read it would make any woman’s heart pound. But it was not from the man that he pretended to be – but from another who knew me well. It makes it ever more meaningful because, silly, stupid me FINALLY figured out who the real guy was. Sometimes I can be quite stupid.
“Morning my woman,
Let me start off by telling you what an amazing woman you are and that you fill my life with joy and satisfaction and my heart with love and happiness.
Before I met you I had started to lose my faith in love, and I wasn’t sure there was a someone out there that would bring the happiness I seek. Now I am positive that there is no one in the world that could complete me like you do or even come close. Love seems more real and true than I ever thought it could and I just want to say thank you, thank you for being persistent in your fight to win my heart because you have won it and me over completely – my heart is yours forever.
I know that we will have our fights and I make you think sometimes that you can’t take anymore, but in my opinion all the good times make the bad ones worth it. We come out stronger in the end and I just want you to know that I love you and I am willing to stick it out through the good and bad, happy and sad because my heart choose you! I love you.
I, Alexis McBride, love the man that expressed these sentiments. Not the man he pretended to be, but I do understand why the pretence was necessary. Pretence is a noun, its synonyms being: act, putting on an act, acting, dissembling, shamming, sham, faking, feigning, simulation, falsification, dissimulation, invention, imagination, self-deception, play-acting, posturing, posture, posing, pose, cant, attitudinizing; deception, deceit, deceitfulness, fraud, hoax, fraudulence, fabrication, duplicity, artifice, subterfuge, treachery, trickery, dishonesty, hypocrisy, falsity, lying, mendacity, lack of veracity. ANTONYMS reality; honesty.
The posturing was necessary as other things had to be accomplished first, and were necessary. He was soothing me and giving me hope and it worked. Simple-minded me finally figured it all out – sometimes I can be a little dopey.
Now this is what stupid can mean: ignorant, dense, brainless, mindless, foolish, dull-witted, dull, slow-witted, witless, slow, dunce-like, simple-minded, empty-headed, vacuous, vapid, half-witted, idiotic, moronic, imbecilic, imbecile, obtuse, doltish; gullible, naive; informal thick, thick as two short planks, dim, dumb, dopey, dozy, crazy, barmy, cretinous, birdbrained, pea-brained, pig-ignorant, bovine, slow on the uptake, soft in the head, brain-dead, boneheaded, lamebrained, thickheaded, chuckleheaded, dunderheaded, wooden, wooden-headed, fat-headed, muttonheaded; British informal daft, not the full shillin ANTONYMS intelligent, clever, astute.
Yes, that is me, slow on the up take and a little birdbrained.. This guy is smarter than I am – I HATE it when someone is smarter than me and they win. But in a gracious email, conceding defeat, at the very end.
Me: I am winning the next round!
I have thrown down the gauntlet – see a prior blog for definition of that concept.
