My most recent obsession, in case any of you have not noticed, is the truth and truth telling versus lying. I found this amazing quote which discusses the power of truth.
“Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!”
― Arthur Miller, The Crucible
It might be interesting to make truth the word of the day. Truth: veracity, truthfulness, verity, sincerity, candour, honesty, genuineness; gospel, gospel truth; accuracy, correctness, rightness, validity, factualness, factuality, authenticity; ANTONYMS dishonesty, falsity.
I strive to be genuine and to be authentic and I want, nay EXPECT, the same from those around me, those close to me. Otherwise, why bother? Another Arthur Miller quote: “Sex, sin, and the Devil were early linked.”
I recently exchanged a text with a man who recently proved himself to be utterly untrustworthy, but he, being a narcissist, attempted to turn the tables:
He: It seems you have an issue trusting men.
Me: I do not trust untrustworthy people – that is not as issue. It is wisdom.
He: You flatter yourself with compliments.
Now why in the world should I be talking with this man? Just blocked him on Instagram so the case closed as said in the legal profession. He did waste a great deal of my time but at least I did not marry him; nor meet him for that matter!
An extremely wise man (who knows me better than anyone else in the world) said that any man in my life must:
1 Not be a narcissist.
2 Have a sense of humour
Could the guy please have money wise man? I do laugh! But the real secret is to have a life that is full and complete without some guy and if one happens into one’s life – then that is well and good, the icing on the cake. But it is best not to count on it. I am definitely fine with that thought.
I recently faced a major decision in life involving money – which shall be discussed later. I was going to spend a great deal of money on travel but wisely determined that anyone (of some means) can travel but few people can write. So I am curtailing major travel expenditures in lieu of ‘staying in’ and writing. It is a much better fit and enabled me to say NO to a scheme. More about that later. One must prioritize! I am going to travel to see friends in the UK and family elsewhere but travel shall not define me. I have eavesdropped on people in this hotel bragging about their many conquests – I remain unimpressed. It is often done on a cruise ship where you never meet the people of the country but just commingle with fellow Americans – no thank you.
There was another saying on Instagram that ‘sang’ to me. “Alone, that is when dreams are born; these the words of Nikola Tesla. There is great truth in that, I do believe. SO I am planning to give up my nomadic existence and settle down have some alone time, therefore I made an appointment to view an apartment in this area (that I love). There are some problems but it looks ideal. I need to dream and not socialize so much, to write and not socialize so much, to think and not socialize so much. I am old and need some down time. I will rejuvenate and rise again like a Phoenix from the ashes. Perhaps finish my Uncle Dave biography, perhaps write a fiction book. I do actually like the pleasure of my own company and then, at least, I shall be enveloped in truth, correctness and genuineness.
The photograph of this day is the perfect rare hamburger mentioned in yesterday’s blog cooked and consumed at Half Moon Cafe in Kentfield. I remind all that it is impossible to obtain a rare hamburger in Canada, moreover such a purchase is most difficult in the UK. The freedom and opportunities in these United States. The other photograph is one of robot day yesterday, the podium with the message. Last, and certainly least is an terrible joke from my favourite Icelandic man – everyone deserves some humour, even if it is sick.
I am soon to close this chapter of my life, therefore, so many chores to perform.
