Well I did survive my birthday and it actually was one of the happiest ones I have ever had – all alone in self isolation. There is something to be said for self-sufficiency I say laughingly. People sometimes, in fact frequently, let a person down but if one is self – Self sufficient, it is possible to be happy. Self sufficient means emotionally and intellectually independent. Another meaning is able to supply one’s own or its own needs without external assistance: Used in a sentence She was self-sufficient, and always reminded you of it. Now it might have been nice to have a guy around yesterday to dole out kisses and hugs but that would violate the rules and regulations in place during these troubled times. One thing I did for entertainment was to watch a YouTube video of a 106 year old woman. She was so lively and energetic, visiting the White House in happier times. I have not been out of my apartment in eight days. Unfortunately I am forced to venture out today because I need a refill of my blood pressure medication. I am not looking forward to it but it is a nice cool foggy day,
I did learn when I was out and about that the self isolation rules have been extended in
San Francisco “indefinitely.” The need to confirm this remains but a Google search revealed a letter to the editor from the Mercury Times. It was so rational and so inspiring. Here it is in part. “Re: “New rules will allow churches to reopen: County health approval required; Bay Area officials not following revised state guidelines yet” (Page A1, May 25):
Permission to politically protest? What? Americans do not need Gavin Newsom’s or the county public health official’s permission to protest (maybe guidelines but never laws or permission).
We already have permission — actually the right — to politically protest. Read the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech … or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This woman is brilliant and she is so justified. The panic the remains is endemic and so obvious when I was out and about in public. People in a panic mode with total ignorance of the facts and sciences of this, (actually minor, virus). If one does not obey the unscientifically approved regulations one cannot enter stores to claim one’s medications or essential groceries. So one does it, at least I did today.
Fascinating news concerning a challenge brought before the Supreme Court, here in the USA. To quote from the release found on NPR: he Supreme Court has rejected a California church’s attempt to overturn the state’s coronavirus restrictions on in-person religious services.
In a 5-4 decision issued late Friday, Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the court’s liberal bloc in upholding the state’s right to impose limits on congregations in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
“Although California’s guidelines place restrictions on places of worship, those restrictions appear consistent with the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment,” Roberts said, in an opinion that denied a request by the South Bay United Pentecostal Church for relief from the rules.
It is occasionally necessary to read between the lines and here in an example.. This is an update on the wearing of face masks. “Then this one about face masks: Preliminary research released this month by scientists at the University of Hong Kong suggests wearing a mask reduced the transmission of the coronavirus via respiratory particles by as much as 75%. The study, however, was conducted on hamsters and may not yet have been peer-reviewed” The study was done on Hamsters ? How ridiculous, cannot imagine what a hamster face mask would even look like.
But do let us bring some cheer and humour. I do so love the New Yorker humour feeds. This is one of the newest, wherein the title is Events We Are Actually Pleased That We Cancelled. How funny is that?????? And they are so incredibly funny and here a few, with more to follow:

This is so strange and unbelievable. YouTube shows an Camel Race taking place in Dubai. For many reasons it is fascinating because the Ruler of Dubai was accused of having young women as camel jockeys. None of these women are girls, but are women, being honoured by the Sultan before the race. The race begins and what is the name of the camel, from China that wins? It is unbelievable. Alexis from China finished in the first place, followed by Japanese-French expat Anna Aiko while Rabab Elguwiri from Finland came in third. Jodi Mercati and Shirley Wilkinson from Britain finished in fourth and fifth places respectively.
Alexis is a strange enough name for a person – I was the only Alexis anywhere in my youth and beyond. But a camel? A camel from China bearing my name. It is my name as I am sure I was born before the camel. I do not think the camel was born before 1943. Hahahaha
