A Day in the Life of Alexis McBride; A Betrayal Found Me Seeking Relief in the Quran; Brief Description of August 1 Morn; Fingerprints are Approved; I am Blessed; Vice Versa; Watts are Wrong at Paradise; Photos of a Sunrise, Sunset, a Sauna and Truffle Fries

Decided that I would write a day in the Life of Alexis and explain in great and excruciating detail the events of July 31, 2025. However, alas and alack,  the day began with a betrayal. A WhatsApp text from an unnamed individual which ended in a patronizing manner.

She: I wish you the best in your endeavors

I strove to rise above the ‘occasion’ responding in this fashion.

Me: It is Allah’s blessing and guidance I strive for. Alhamdulillah.

Of course, it stung. What is a betrayal? It is the action of betraying one’s country, a group, or a person. Some stinging synonyms are disloyalty, perfidy, bad faith, faithlessness, falseness, duplicity, breach of faith, breach of trust, Judas kiss. I suppose Judas kiss is my favorite.

Throughout the day looked to the Quran for both solace and guidance. Used two methods – randomly opening a page and also using my memory. My memory did not led to finding the exact verse, that search shall continue. Perhaps when it is found, I shall present them all – sort of a package deal. By now I have taken all necessary steps, even managing to feel sympathy for this individual.  Forgiveness is Allah’s (SWT) domaine.

Before I begin with a detailed account of yesterday – I shall speak of this August 1, 2025 morning. I awoke, worshipped offering Fajr prayer in a timely fashion. Then went back to bed. Heard two notifications – knew who it was not, two people had been blocked. Another  betrayal had occurred earlier in the week.

To my absolute delight the first message was from Emma, a longtime Kashmir Restaurant employee. A beautiful rose good morning greeting. The second from Shamir, another one of our spirited conversations.

He: (at 7:10) Good morning.

Me: Good morning. You are awake SO early for you. Early bird gets the worm .

He: Yes. I slept early and today is my favorite day.

Me: So you are up early to enjoy it to its fullest.

He: You are smarter than you look

Me: How could that be? I look SO smart. You and Emma are my good morning greeters. What a gift. I have so much to be grateful for. Allah is so blessing me with the two of you.

He: Vica versa

Me: What a wonderful thing to say. You are so literate. Strange saying. I must look it up.

Well, of course I did. Vice versa is an adverb meaning “the other way around.”It’s used to indicate that a statement is also true if the order is reversed. For example, in the sentence “we should be respectful of our neighbors, and vice versa,” it suggests that the statement is also true the other way around (i.e., “our neighbors should be respectful of us”).

I sent the conversation to Emma, who responded beautifully.

She: thank q same to u. All coming from Allah. Alhamdulillah.

Then another message from Shamir., attached a letter from Richmond, BC. Canada saying”The fingerprints were taken in the right manner.”

He: Good news from the fingerprint.

Me: What a magnificent morning!!

He: So I have to send the original to that address.

Me: Wow Mashallah.

I have had my fingerprints taken twice. I have to have a RCMP clearance as I am applying for me Malaysia as my second home with my Canadian passport. It is a  huge hurdle, this clearance. I laughingly say that Malaysia has enough home grown criminals, they do not have to import any. This process is taking forever. First I had to get my Canadian passport renewed for ten years. But one step at a time.

But back to yesterday’s day in the life of Alexis McBride. I was determined, not to let the betrayal interfere with my day or my good spirits. I took a photograph of the sunrise, which was surreal actually. The caption, sent to my WhatsApp folks read: The sea and the sky seem to be one taken at 7:08 this 7/31/2025. Good morning.

Nesh: That’s beautiful. I love the red or pink hue.

Shamir send back two photos. One of the sea and another entitled hell on earth.

Me: I think that is a sauna. I hate them. It is hell on earth.

He: Yes it is. Preparing myself.

Me: Oh I do not think there is any way to prepare. LLAMB says revert.

He: 😇

Me: Then you would be blessed. 😇 I have raised such a smart son.

He: Rub some halo over me.

Me: I will tomorrow. It is too far to reach today. Hahaha Should I rub some on your Dad today.

Mohan was arriving to preform a Paradise pickup bringing me to Lyf for a couple of days. He promptly arrived at 10;45. I was promptly ready, off we sped in his red BMW. It was an eventful trip. He got a real estate call and we had to go to some property on the way. I stayed in the air conditioned car. Then as we drove toward Georgetown there was, all of sudden  a warming that there was a flat tire. Mohan immediately pulled into a Good Year tire place and had it fixed. Then he went to the office for a few minutes. and finally to Lyf.

Reached Lyf around noon and was lucky enough to meet with LYF general manager Nixon to discuss my continued stay at Lyf. I will be staying at LYF two or three days every week, escaping the solitude of Paradise to be around people of different countries and to be near my physiotherapist and other essential appointments. Makes me feel that my life has some direction.

At about 1 pm received a WhatsApp from Melissa, my dear friend who works at Paradise.

She: FYI there is no electricity in the building, only the common areas.

Me: Wow! I picked the right moment to be away, here at Lyf. Enjoy by the way.

She: Thank God. We’re having electricity interruption. Not sure watts wrong.

Me: Well, the watts are wrong. Please laugh

She: 🤣

Me: I am so happy I could make you laugh.

She: Im actually stressed out by tq

Me: Of course you are stressed. You would have to be dead not to be stressed. But you reached out and I made you laugh for an instant. Wow Mashallah as we Muslims say.

Then I grabbed GRAB to go to physiotherapy. Oh my goodness, what an accomplished  appointment. I have made significant progress. The neck pain which has plagued me since January has been minimized, my sciatica is not bothering me and my left knee is showing progress.

She: You do not have to come back every week, just come in as needed if you are in pain again.

Me: I would like to keep our weekly appointments so that I am doing everything possible to keep on top of this chronic condition. I do not want it to flare up again.

She: That is fine with me!!! It is a good idea – see you next week.

Then back to LYF. Went to the pool and met a family from the Netherlands. Two attractive English speaking teenagers and their fit parents. We had a wonderful chat, learning about their lives and professions. AND all five of us had blue eyes – a rarity in these parts.

I had dinner plans but not until later. Therefore, I went to Mojo Pojo for dessert first. It was SO absolutely delicious that I ate it all without taking a photo. How embarrassing. But I did take a photo of my lunch before my real lunch. A plate of truffle fries, so delicious.

The button on my new dress fell off. Looking for help went to Kashmir. , Emma gave me a pin. But it is one of those scarf pins that are impossible to open and close. Mohan and I went back to our favorite Japanese restaurant. Forgot about the pin when he dropped me off so I had to sleep in my clothes as I couldn’t get out of the dress.  Made it easy to go down to breakfast. Hahaha

Photographs of the sunrise, the sunset the night before, the sauna and the truffle fries.
